Updated: April 30, 2016.
We enjoyed an excellent first half of the 2015/16 whale shark season, with over 50 different individual sharks identified between late October and the end of January, of which around half were new visitors to Southern Leyte. A few days of poor weather during the last week of January dispersed the food, and whale shark sightings became infrequent and dispersed around the bay. Once there are concentrations of zooplankton, or other sources of food, near the surface there will be a good chance of finding whale sharks again and we will be resuming our whale shark tours. But whether that happens during what should be the final month of this season, or we need to wait until the start of next season in late October, remains to be seen.
